Alpaca & Merino Scarf/Beanie

Using black alpaca and natural white merino micron 18, I carded together, then spun it up plied it back with white wool yarn and silver glitter yarn.
With the yarn I first calculated approx length and amount for fringe. Then I cast on 8 stitches and using No 20mm needles knitted
till I was happy with the length.
I still had left over yarn so I knitted a beret but had to add just black alpaca which I had in my stash. I will take it to Bellingen Market to see if I have a buyer if not I will keep it for myself as I do love the softness of it and you can wear black and white accessories with any outfit plus I have just bought a lovely black jacket.

Hand Spun Yarns

I just love looking at the colour of these multi coloured hanks of yarn.
I guess I am allowed to say it. I used the Cheeses from Nundle so they are more of an even thickness.
I am hoping to find time to knit up a pair of socks, as I am getting enticed with all these socks patterns available as they look so good.
Then this (bottom) photo is of my own spun wool using carded pre-dyed fleece, blending and plying back with matching yarn and some metalic thread
Plus black alpaca with many coloured mohairs randomly spun in.
Also a finely spun up yarn of multi dyed tussah silk in greys to maroon.
If you are thinking what are these Cheeses, refer to earlier post 15th July 09 as I have From Cheese to Yarn. If I have room at the Quilt Show Coffs Harbour I will have them for sale.Posted by Picasa

Winter 2009 Beanies

Winter is only a few days off so I have been busy spinning new and designer yarns, then knitting many beanies.

They can be worn to keep the chilly winds away, or the new scrap beanie is definately for fun as well as being practical.
Beanies that suit either the Lady or Man just what your choose of style is.Posted by Picasa

Natural Black Alpaca Beanies

In my stash I found this lovely natural black alpaca which I firstly spun up with mohair which I had prevoiusly dyed all different colours. picking at random different colours I plied it back with black wool yarn, so beanie "top" has this spun yarn at the band.

Second sample I plied with glitter which I dyed aqua and with an added purple angelina gave it a bit of bling. "middle" has this yarn at the band.

Third sample I plied with glitter I dyed gold to tan. "bottom" has this yarn at the bottom.

I just loved working with this natural black alpaca, I was very happy with the result they are soft and very comfortable to wear. I have a good stash so I'm keen to get out the spinning wheel and see what I can design from my other stash of mohair, glitter, angelina etc. please double click on photo to see more close up detail.
