More hand felted hats for the Quilters Show at Coffs Harbour Race Course.
Even a couple for the fellas using natural brown/black Romney fleece.
I just love the emu feathers that I purchased at Alice Springs Beanie Festival 2009.

Feathers on Felted Hats No 1

I have been busy creating hand felted hats for the Quilters Show at Coffs Harbour Race Course Sept 11th - 13th.

First I had to dye the fleece, so I had lots of fun in the back of my garage, with pots of dye, and the microwave working continuously.
Then I had to get down to the hard yakka. Making about 3 hats a day, then there is the embellishment and decoration that makes a hat special.
I was lucky I had in my stash a collection of beautiful feathers, so with a little colour co-ordination I hope I have created a stylish hat.

My personal hat is the one bottom photo, middle, greens and rust with a point with coloured feathers sew in the peak. I will wear that during the quilters show.

Eggs and Bacon for Lunch

I would like to introduce you to Margaret the Black Chook who arrived after
I received a very distressing phone call to say would I take Margaret as the rest of her family had been attacked, and Margaret survived.

Of course I said Yes and she has proved a much loved Chook and after a few altercations to start with, my Ruby, Henmerelda and Penny they have become one big happy family. They are free range and are fed the best of foods from my kitchen. ( leftovers).
This was amazing egg that Margaret layed on the right hand side to her normal laying egg. I just knew it had to be double yoker and it was.
So how better to have it freshly fried with bacon and lovely buttered toast.

Felt Like a Change

I felted these two hats last year and with all my knitting just didnt finish them.
With a hand knitted flower which was knitted and felted by Yvonne it made the right touch to a close to the head, tan felted hat.



With the deep burgundy hat I managed to dye a matching band and felted flower.
This hat has a brim and very flattering to wear.

Its getting closer to warmer weather but I am sure we still have many days when we want to be a little glamorous and at the same time keep warm, pop on a felt hat and enjoy.

Citrus Cake & Banana Muffins

Having plenty of Oranges I thought I would make one of Jo's special Citrus Cakes where you put the whole orange in (less the pips)
eggs, sugar & flour, mix together and bake, then pour a citrus syrup over just after its out of the oven. It could have been bigger but the raw mixture was rather delicious.
I bought a commercial packet of Banana Muffin mix and added a couple mashed bananas and followed the recipe. I am taking these with me this Saturday to Bellingen Market to have with our coffee.

From Cheese to Spun Yarn

You didnt think it possible to spin up a cheese, but you are wrong. A Cheese is called as it looks like a Cheese but is in fact fine wool wrapped in a circle.
I purchased from Nundle Woollen Mills as a previous post shows.
This time I used three threads which I spun up and then using three threads plied back. I then dyed it royal blue and didnt want complete cover but shades of blue which I was happy with.

I continued with same till I had 3 hanks of wool yarn.

Blue Vest from Cheeses

This is the Vest that I knitted up using the blue yarn that I knitted using the cheeses.
It is a very pain pattern as it was my first attempt and reading from a pattern which I had to alter.
It took 405 gms.
I have added a pottery broach to hold the sides together.
